One of Canada’s Most watched Sports Broadcasts: The Grey Cup

The 107th Grey Cup in Calgary is in the books.  So who won?

The big winners were the Winnipeg Blue Bombers, who ended the CFL’s longest championship drought by defeating the Hamilton Tiger Cats 33-12.  Winnipeg waited 29 years to hoist the cup…and with the exception of Toronto Maple Leaf fans (can you say 1967), everyone agrees that’s a long drought!

Non-football fans won too.  Keith Urban put on a great half-time show, and even joined Chris Cuthbert and Glen Suitor in the TSN play by play booth for a while in the second half – genuinely appearing to try to learn the Canadian game!

The CFL were also winners.  TSN and RDS extended their CFL television, radio and digital exclusivity in all languages in Canada, with a long-term agreement that was announced over Grey Cup Weekend.  And why not, the CFL’s Grey Cup game consistently ranks as one of the most watched sports broadcasts on Canadian television.  The previous 5 Grey Cup games averaged 3.8 Million viewers in Canada (2+), and this year’s game surpassed that with an estimated audience of 4.1 Million!
